It gives me a great pleasure and a rare opportunity to be amongst you, my Muslim brothers and
sisters, learned practitioners of the legal profession. I will like to start by appreciating the entire
membership of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN) for giving me the platform to
deliver the Keynote Address at this year’s Conference, thereby enabling me to share my thought
on a topical issue of our time

The Foundation’s fourth scholarship ceremony for the 2015/16  session was held on Saturday November 7, 2015 in the premises of Community High School, Sepeteri in Saki East Local Government Council of Oyo State.  Unlike the last three editions, six scholars emerged this year; the sixth, Aminat Muritala, a student of Community High School Sepeteri, was sponsored by Alhaji and Alhaja J. On November 26, 2015, over 300 final year medical students of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba, Lagos, Nigeria benefitted from Tomeb Foundation’s one-day empowerment programme with the theme: Achieving Goals: A Dignified Successful Future is Possible. The programme was supported by the giant oil company ExxonMobil, who sponsored the purchase and distribution of 300 copies of a book “The Personal Business Plan: A Blueprint for Running Your Life” authored by Stephen Bruyant Langer, to the participants. On Saturday March 15, 2014, Nigerians woke up to a bizarre. About 522,650 graduates assembled in major stadia across the country to write an employment test and go through physical fitness for recruitment into the elite cadre of the Nigerian Immigration Services. The candidates were all vying to fill about 4,556 vacancies in the Service, according to the newspaper sources quoting the Minister of Interior. If all the 4,556 slots were filled at the end of the exercise, less than one in a hundred applicants would have been employed. We do not know how many persons actually applied for the jobs. (more…)
